Pizza Corner (let me call it PC) has a new offering – “Pizza with Rice”

It gets you all excited… Pizza with Rice… Rs. 69 only... blah blah blah

You go there, stomach grumbling, taste buds eager (I went to PC, Abiramapuram). And you’re in for deep disappointment (Knew this line was coming, didn’t you?). You discover that PC has pulled the worst trick on you.

“Pizza with Rice” is actually a few vegetables tossed together with what looked to me like a local variety of rice… and they serve such a huge amount that it leaves you groaning (sarcasm).

At Abiramapuram Pizza Corner, this masterpiece of a dish arrives at my table 25 minutes after I order it. And only 3 tables are occupied in the whole place. On top of that the waiter who attends to me has a smile that reminds me of a lecherous ex-colleague.

They didn’t even have the courtesy to give me a glass of water. I tell you – I wanted to ask him if he didn’t have water there. Unfortunately I am a loyal (laugh, laugh :) ) customer as I am a fan of their pasta and desserts. Who knows, if I ask such questions, I might be given horrid food, or the chef might add too many chillies which would make me scream for water (and which they would probably say they don’t have), or worse, I might be banned. But I can’t take the risk. I need to have the pasta once in a few weeks.

So this bullshit, plus what we pay for their air-conditioning, also for the water he didn’t give me, a view of Indian bank from a corner table and stinging in the eyes caused by some crap they do with chillies in their kitchen (I bet every customer at PC Abiramapuram will experience this... during every alternate visit) – all this amounts to Rs. 69, they think.

I can say – the food amounts to Rs. 15-20 max. I also have to kick the cook’s ass – both for the food and his chilli experiments. And bash up the waiters… or one good screaming and yelling session might be worth my money. But I would probably be thrown out unceremoniously.

I swear… PC will have a million people complaining about that Pizza with Rice crap. Who do they think will order this for that price and eat? Foreigners maybe, because they would want to try rice. Or stupid snobs who think its cool to blow money on rice when they can eat tastier rice at home. This food doesn’t even match the taste of the oily Szechwan (purely Indian taste) fried rice I ate at a small wannabe Punju dhaba in Velachery.

I wrote this after a friend told me to blog on things like restaurants etc. – things which would interest many. And look what came out. I simply couldn’t say anything positive about that rice. I have to write something about the pasta and the desserts.
Love is the most beautiful thing…

It is “nonsense” that makes complete sense. Seems strange… but is natural.

When you discover it, you think… What is happening? I never thought this will happen… but you cherish it.

It makes you incredibly ecstatic.

You’d give anything for true love.

You’d care for the person forever… at least in some small way.

Love doesn’t understand things like religion and physical attributes. It only understands the heart.

It puts a shine in your eyes and makes your heart bounce.

It is born when something about the other person touches your heart so deeply that it flips… in a microsecond.
Time for my next post…

When some things in life get complex, you get irritated… you want to get to the root of those things and find out why they’re happening… how you can solve ‘em…

Some things are beautiful when they’re tangled up… you like them as they are, and you’re happy with them.

When these untangle themselves and you feel them in their simplest form, you’re forced to make a logical decision.

Ignorance is bliss. In some situations, it is true.
Yesterday my colleague drew up the roller blind to let in sunlight. He exclaimed: “Kandravi” and closed it immediately.

Through the window we get a straight view of a cozy looking secluded corner seat in the Coffee Day in the next building. You know that it is a seat where couples try to get as much privacy as they can in a public place. The couples who come to this Coffee Day are truly unfortunate to give people the opportunity to stare at them. Well, Coffee Day is to blame. I hope they put some window blinds near that seat.

Of Coffee and Muckee

Everyday I drink 4 cups of a brown fluid that has a coffee flavour but is hardly related to filter coffee and Bru. Let me call it muckee, which my system sometimes finds intolerably yucky. (Now if McDonald’s came up with something like Muckee customers would call it McKee – but of course they won’t.) If the coffee is not fit for even the lowest of beings, I ignore it. But 99% of the time it goes into my stimulation-craving system. Our Chaya Cheta’s coffee at least has the essential quality.

I want to reveal a shocking truth – the only brown fluid I drink these days is muckee. Shame on me. I don’t take coffee at home in the mornings, or in the evenings. I ignore my mother’s coffee. The only time I tasted good coffee recently was when I went to a client’s office. The coffee provided a few blissful moments of relief during the tension-filled meeting.

The other day a couple of my colleagues were saying they were going to boycott the Chaya Cheta. They drink only tea, but of course I assumed the tea was really bad. Only later I found they were boycotting after the guy started coming late.

By drinking muckee I am bringing disgrace to myself. But what do I do? I get nothing else free of cost during work hours. (Beyond the fact that it keeps me going through the day – in some way. In spite of the taste.) And don’t we all like free food and drink?

We should hang our heads in shame.

College students are still inflicting violence on their juniors in the name of ragging. Akhil Dev was first asked to lick the shoes of his seniors – reminds me of a scene from the movie Siraichalai (which is set in the British period, in the Andaman jail.) while he was beat up. Akhil was then hit with a frying pan and a steel chair. Then his head was banged against a wall! He was also punched in the eyes! The unforgivable acts of ruthless villains! And these villains were only given suspension! Apparently the college even tried to resolve the conflict by getting both parties to meet, to save its reputation. What the hell!

”He was reportedly beaten up after he refused to pay the seniors money for the second time after giving them 3,000. Doctors who are treating the 19-year-old management student said that he has nine holes in his retinas and may lose his eyesight by the time he turns 25.”

“The violent ragging that this 19-year-old first-year BBM student in PSG Arts and Science College in Coimbatore was subjected to a month ago has left him with “nine holes in the retina and an impaired hearing.” That is apart from the back injuries and the mental trauma that he is trying to overcome with the help of psychiatric counsellors.”

What do we blame for turning college students into inhuman tormentors? Violent movies? Acts of terrorism which people read about? We have a lot of things to put the blame on… but is each one of us influenced by violence? Humanitarianism is important! People may harbour violent thoughts, yes. But what gives a person the right to torture another – physically or mentally? Where has humaneness gone? Do these people have consciences? If they don’t, their self-control has disappeared.

Don’t we say “Men turn into beasts” sometimes? Well, why do we call some animals beasts? Animals don’t have the sixth sense that can make them good, or violent. We do. And we should stop misusing it.

Let’s make a pledge to be non-violent and humane!

I am ashamed of myself

Don't be so nice that you forget insulting things people say!

I like people for the good things they do. Dislike them for the bad things. If an insulting comment is thrown at me by someone whom I like to an extent, and they don’t regret it one bit, I feel hurt… till they talk to me in a friendly way. In an instant, my anger disappears, along with my self-respect. (There may be other reasons which I must analyse.) Why am I such a nice person? Why can’t I throw attitude? Why can’t I care a damn? Why can’t I stamp on people?

I guess I won’t be able to become a mean minded arrogant person who makes others miserable. But at least this blog article will remind me to guard my self-respect, so that I become a better person. This message is for you too, of course.
